Words Matter

Opening our worship to mystery, beauty and belonging through inclusive language.

How do we understand God? One another? Ourselves? So much of our understanding is determined by the words and metaphors we use.

This workshop will offer reflection on the importance of inclusive language in our songs, prayers, liturgy and speaking, and delve into some of the not-so-obvious ways our words have hurt others and shut people out. We will also offer time for discussion on a few of the challenges inherent in changing familiar words and phrases. 

At the core of this workshop will be practical ideas, writing exercises and other experiences to help your church become more beautifully inclusive in the language you use so that everyone can believe… and truly feel like… they belong.
